CCTV in our Parish

The Council has agreed an initiative to install CCTV cameras in the Parish to support the prevention, investigation and detection of crime, the apprehension and prosecution of offenders, the maintenance of public order and the reduction of vandalism.

It is intended cameras will be installed at two locations in the first instance, one in Copthorne and one in Crawley Down.

In Copthorne, the camera has been installed and is located on the Village Green.

In Crawley Down, one pan tilt zoom and two static cameras were installed outside the shops on Station Road in January 2026.

CCTV signs will be installed around each village at the time the cameras are being installed and are going live.

The cameras will be monitored by Sussex Police. We are therefore liaising with Sussex Police and our Preferred Supplier to ensure any necessary servicing and monitoring agreements, and signage will be in place for when installation is completed.

A new CCTV Policy and Frequently Asked Questions have now been published to help answer any questions you may have (see links below).

A review of the Phase 1 installation at Copthorne has now been carried out and it is expected that decisions about whether or not further cameras will be installed will be discussed by the Finance & General Purposes Committee and Full Council over the next couple of months.

We will provide further updates as they happen.
