CCTV - Crawley Down Village

The Council has agreed an initiative to install CCTV cameras in the Parish to support the prevention, investigation and detection of crime, the apprehension and prosecution of offenders, the maintenance of public order and the reduction of vandalism.

It is intended cameras will be installed at two locations in the first instance, one in Crawley Down and one in Copthorne.

In Crawley Down, we are intending to install CCTV apparatus on Station Road, directly in front of the Memorial Car Park. Our Preferred Supplier is in the process of seeking agreement for a S50 licence from West Sussex County Council in order to excavate and install CCTV apparatus at this location. This is a change in location for the originally intended position on the corner of Burleigh Way, due to high voltage underground cables located there.

Once the S50 licence has been granted, we will be able to finalise dates with our preferred supplier for the installation to take place.

The camera, in addition to that sited in Copthorne, will be monitored by Sussex Police. We are therefore liaising with Sussex Police and our Preferred Supplier to ensure any necessary servicing and monitoring agreements, and signage will be in place for when installation is completed.

A new CCTV Policy and Frequently Asked Questions will also be published once available, to help answer any questions you may have.

Once the cameras are sited, a period of review will take place to inform decisions about whether further cameras will be installed in future.

We will provide further updates as they happen.
